Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has urged passengers to take a stand and protest whenever they witness a bus driver or Tuktuk overloading.
The CS made the statement on his official X account following an incident where a Tuktuk driver, plying the Kisumu-Nairobi route, was stopped by NTSA (National Transport and Safety Authority) for overloading.

Murkomen revealed that the Tuktuk was found to be carrying eight passengers instead of the recommended four when it was intercepted by NTSA and traffic police officers. Emphasizing the dangerous nature of the overloading, he expressed the hope that the fleeing cyclist would face legal consequences for such reckless behavior.
Narrating the incident, Murkomen advised the public not to remain silent in the face of unsafe road practices but to actively protest against them. He underscored that road safety is a shared responsibility, urging everyone to play their part in minimizing the risks to lives on the roads. He emphasized our collective duty to prioritize road safety and prevent unnecessary risks when on the roads.

Needless to say it was dangerously overloaded.
