If you were asked to describe Stellantis using one sentence, what would you say? The company is less than 3 years old and is currently the fourth biggest car maker in the world behind Toyota, VW and Hyundai.

Stellantis is a massive conglomerate comprising of two major car companies: American-Italian Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and the French PSA Group. The merger happened in 2021 creating a company that is headquartered in Amsterdam, listed on three stock exchanges, houses 14 car brands and has over 300,000 employees.

In 2019 and amidst continued struggles to remain profitable, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles approached Renault for a merger. A provisional agreement was reached but the uneasiness of the French government and Renault’s Japanese partner, Nissan scuttled the deal. FCA then turned to the other big French car maker, PSA group who agreed to the merger.

The deal was completed in January 2021, creating the world’s fourth-largest carmaker. Car brands under Stellantis are:  Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroën, Dodge, DS, Fiat, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Opel, Peugeot, Ram, and Vauxhall. The best selling among them is Fiat with the trendy Fiat 500 being the top selling model across the brands.
