Tesla is recalling thousands of Cybertrucks over the risk of crashes caused by trapped accelerator pedal and will fix the problem for free.

According to filing the company made with the US government, the pedal can be lodged in the interior trim when pressed hard. The trapped pedal will in turn affect the performance and operation of the car increasing the risk of collision.

Drivers will be able to notice if the issue is present on their cars through dashboard warnings and compromised car performance when pressing the accelerator or brake pedal.

“If the condition is present and the driver attempts to apply the accelerator pedal, the driver will detect the condition through immediate compromised performance and operation of the pedal. In addition, if the condition is present when the driver applies the brake pedal, the driver will receive an audible and visual alert that both brake and accelerator pedals are being pressed. Application of the brake pedal will cut drive torque, including when both brake and accelerator pedals are pressed.” Reads part of the filing.

Tesla said they have received complaints about the issue from two drivers so far. The company added that they are not aware of any accidents or injuries that have happened anywhere caused by the issue.

Even though the risk of collision do exist, pressing the brake pedal should counteract it and one will be to bring the vehicle to a stop.

According to the recall notice, the number of Cybertrucks affected is 3,878 manufactured between November 2023 and April 2024.
