The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) issued a joint statement on the road accident that involved a petroleum tanker and a Tahmeed Coach bus that took place along the Busia Kisumu highway.
Confirming the accident in which 2 people died and 8 others were injured, the two government bodies stated that the tanker was transporting bulk diesel and that although the prime mover was damaged extensively, the tank remained intact with no diesel leaking out.
The statement further noted that preliminary reports indicated lane indiscipline and dangerous overtaking by the tanker was the probable cause of the accident.
