Nairobi Expressway new toll charges: Here is the breakdown

The Nairobi Expressway toll charges have been increased across all the stations along the 27.1 km Mlolongo-Westlands route. Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen announced the new charges in a gazette notice dated December 19, 2023, saying the new rates take effect from December 31, 2023.

According to the gazette notice, the least amount a motorist can pay to use the Expressway has risen to Ksh 170 from Ksh 120. The highest a motorist can pay, Westlands to Syokimau and vice versa, is now Ksh 500 instead of the previous Ksh 350.

Heavy vehicles with fewer than four axles will pay four times the new rates while heavy vehicles with four or more axles will pay five times the new rates.

We’ve broken down the new charges below. Note that this applies to standard saloon cars. For heavier cars multiply the figures by 1.5, 4 and 5 to get the new charges for light vehicles with two axles, heavy vehicles with fewer than four axles and heavy vehicles with four or more axles respectively.

Westlands to JKIA and Easter Bypass – Ksh 410

Westlands to Southern Bypass – Ksh 330

Westlands to Haile Selassie and Capital Centre – Ksh 250

Westlands to Museum Hill – Ksh 170

These charges from Westlands also apply when starting from The Mall.

Museum Hill to Mlolongo is the same as from Westlands which is Ksh 500

Museum Hill to Syokimau – Ksh 410

Museum Hill to JKIA and Eastern Bypass – Ksh 330

Museum Hill to Southern Bypass – Ksh 250

Museum Hill to Capital Centre and Haile Selassie – Ksh 170
