Kenyatta University Issues a Statement on The Voi Crash

Kenyatta University has issued a statement regarding the Monday evening crash that involved their bus and a lorry in Voi. In the statement, signed by the vice-chancellor Prof. Paul K. Wainaina, the university confirmed the accident and stated that a team was dispatched from the university’s main and Mombasa campuses to the scene to assess the situation, assist survivors and provide accurate report.

“The team includes two doctors, medical personnel, University security officers as well as students’ and staff wellness officers.” Reads part of the statement.

The university is assessing some of the injured students for a possible evacuation.

Although we know 11 students perished in the unfortunate accident, the university refused to confirm the number only stating that there were fatalities.

“At the moment we are not able to share specific numbers and/or names but can confirm that there are several fatalities involved. The university will provide a more comprehensive report later today as information becomes available. Kenyatta University is deeply saddened by the tragic accident.”

The University has offered its deepest condolences to the families of those who died in the accident. They have also set up a help desk inside the university and a phone number for queries and support.
