Easy Coach Bus Accident Kills A Chavakali Boys High School Student

A bus belonging to Easy Coach carrying students from Chavakali Boys High School overturned on Monday night killing one student on the spot and injuring 32 others, 2 of them severely. The accident happened at around 10.00 pm at the Mamboleo junction along the Kakamega-Kisumu highway.

The two severely injured were rushed to Avenue Hospital while the rest were admitted at Jaramogi Oginga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) in Kisumu.

According to a report from Kondele Police Station, the bus driver who was not found at the scene was trying to negotiate a roundabout and lost control.

“It happened that the vehicle was negotiating the said Coptic roundabout on its way to Kisumu from Kakamega when the driver lost control hit a rail guard and the vehicle fell at the edge of the road and rested on its left side,” the police report details on the accident.

Kisumu Central Police Commander Peter Mulai has urged motorists to be careful when approaching that area as it is a notorious blackspot. He stated that the heavy rains pounding the area could have contributed to the driver loosing control of the bus.

Easy Coach has issued a statement regarding the accident offering condolences to family and friends of the student who passed away. They have stated that they are working closely with authorities to investigate the accident while wishing quick recovery to the injured


The body of the deceased student was taken to JOOTRH morgue for preservation awaiting autopsy.
