CS Murkomen Announces new Nairobi Expressway Exit at Greenpark

Transport and Roads Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen announced that the new Nairobi Expressway exit plaza at Greenpark will have five toll lanes. The CS made the announcement when he inspected ongoing work at the site. Expressway. The project is slated for completion in mid-January.

CS Murkomen also disclosed plans to add two more lanes at the Museum Hill exit to bring it to five. Emphasizing the positive impact of the Nairobi Expressway, he praised its role in reducing travel time from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Nairobi, slashing it from two hours to just 20 minutes.

Highlighting the project as a testament to successful public-private partnerships, the CS commended its contribution to job creation. During construction, the Nairobi Expressway provided employment for 6,000 Kenyans, and it currently sustains 500 permanent jobs. Additionally, the E-Ticketing system has garnered 200,000 subscribers in 19 months, and the road has accommodated 26 million vehicles, validating the demand for such infrastructure.

CS Murkomen also acknowledged the project’s role in facilitating technology transfer to Kenya and praised its smart traffic monitoring system for enhancing security and emergency response, setting a precedent for the imminent deployment of the Intelligent Traffic System (ITS).

Expressing gratitude to China for their investment, CS Murkomen announced ambitious plans for the development of new roads nationwide. The long-term strategy encompasses key routes such as the Nairobi-Mombasa and Athi River-Namanga highways, as well as the Kisumu-Isibania and Kiambu Road. This comprehensive plan aims to further enhance the country’s transportation infrastructure.
