It was a sad evening as 11 public health students from Kenyatta University lost their lives following a horrifying road accident that involved their bus and a lorry. The accident happened in Maungu near Voi along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.
This comes on the same day 5 people were killed when their matatu rammed into a tractor in Bomet.
Confirming the accident, Voi sub-county police commander Dasala Ibrahim said 43 others were injured and rushed to hospital. The bus was ferrying students to Mombasa on an academic trip.
The Kenya Red Cross has provided an update saying the 42 injured students are receiving treatment at Moi County Referral Hospital in Voi.
“Update: 42 injured individuals are now being attended to at Moi County Referral Hospital in Voi. The Kenya Red Cross has provided support with evacuation, triage, and tracing and will offer psychosocial support services.”
We are taking this opportunity to condole with family, friends and the whole Kenyatta University fraternity and wishing a quick recovery to the injured.
